Johnny Bravo ultimate promotes the spirit of the game, while maintaining a high level of competition. Into the new season, expectations remained high, coming off a 2007 finals appearance. After selecting a diverse range of talent at tryouts, Bravo had set the seed for another run at a national championship.
With their hopes high after an exhibition win over the Australian national team in late July, the team took the field in Boulder, for Colorado Cup. With a few tight games and a less cohesive group of players, Bravo was having a hard time finding its identity in the goings. As the tournament went on, handlers and cutters started to gain the confidence in each other that team needed to succeed late in the tournament and into the season. With narrowly winning finals on the last point the game, the stage was set.
In mid August, Bravo traveled to the east coast to face a number of rivals. With some convincing wins and a few disappointing losses, Bravo ended up not making quarters, and a sup par 9th place finish. The losses, would fuel Bravo’s next few week’s going into the most competitive tourney of the year, Labor Day. With new found inspiration fueled by the taste of defeat, Bravo took the field at labor looking to regain its place among the nation’s best. While rolling through most of the pool play games, moral was high, only to be lessened by loss the next day to the defending nationals champs.
The next few weeks were aimed at ironing out some details in Bravo’s game, while getting all the players back healthy for a run at the national championship. With a renewed Johnny Bravo squad, we took off for nationals in late October to compete in the UPA Club Championships. Day one rolled by with a 4-0 record. Day two started with a few disappointed losses to some well rounded teams from both costs. Barely making it to quarters, Bravo entered the third day with a new set of goals, but only to loose in semis to the eventual champs.
